Review of Mentorship in Clockmaking
I came from New Mexico, hoping to refine self-taught skills and learn some new ones. The mentorship exceeded my expectations! We learned clock disassembly, cleaning, spring removal, oiling springs, pivot polishing and burnishing on a lathe, inspection, reassembly, lubrication, putting a clock into beat, and regulation. We also visited the museum’s collections area and discussed clockmaking with the NAWCC Executive Director. We used the library to research and date our clocks. These visits were very beneficial to enhancing our knowledge and providing an opportunity to understand and use our NAWCC member benefits. I now have a solid foundation to build upon and add more advanced skills. The mentorship provided the added bonus of making new friends and contacts with similar interests. –Dave
